Dry spell broken for Perth, but only just

Sam Terry
After 16 days without any rain, Perth's dry spell has finally been broken. Today a front has clipped southwest WA, bringing a band of light showers, with some falling in Perth. About 1 mm has been picked up across the city, with this likely to be all. This means that Perth has had it's longest August dry spell in 30 years. The previous dry spell lasted 18 days. The next week looks likely to stay fairly dry for southwest WA, with falls of around 5mm forecast with another front on Monday morning. Many towns will have their driest August in some time, including Bunbury. So far they have received 24mm, potentially its driest August in at least 13 years. For Perth, only 26mm has been picked up this month. The next driest total was in 1881, where just 27.5mm was received for the month. However, Perth will probably pick up a few more falls, and end up having its driest August in 52 years.
