A cold front moving across Western Australia has delivered the best rain in over a year for Perth.

The first rainfall fell in the early afternoon with just light falls to begin with, as 11mm fell in the five hours to 7pm. Things started to ramp up from that point with a further 39mm falling in the following 5 hours. Rain then started to ease from midnight into the early hours of this morning, however the gauge still picked up a further 8mm by 8.30am.

This total of 58mm, in the 24 hours to 9am this morning, makes it the best rain the city has received since January 2018 when a massive 96.2mm was dumped onto the city.

Total rainfall for June 2019 now stands at 177mm, well over the average of around 126mm. This makes it the wettest month since August 2018 (186mm) and the wettest June since 2005 (251mm). With further rainfall on the way this coming week there is a good chance the city will pick up at least another 10mm, making it wetter than August 2018. The only month to receive more than this in the last 14 years is that of June 2005.

Clearer skies and sunshine is forecast however before the next front arrives, so make the most of it before the raincoats and umbrellas are needed again.
