Damaging wind and rain cross southeastern Australia

Damaging wind and rain cross southeastern Australia
Cold and strong winds with rain are impacting Victoria and Tasmania as a low pressure system moves through Bass Strait. A severe weather warning for damaging winds was issued for elevated areas in the ACT, Snowy Mountains. Northwesterly winds are expected to gust to 100km/h in this region. Strong winds are expected to impact the Victorian coastline as the low moves east through Bass Strait. Melbourne is likely to experience a cool day after its warmest night since March, dropping to only 19 degrees. Northwesterly winds will shift southwesterly this afternoon bringing a cold and wet change. Mostly light showers will then be a feature until at least Friday with strong southerly winds making conditions even colder than the mercury would suggest. Tasmania can also expect strong southerlies along its west and south coasts. All of Tasmania is likely to see rain with some heavy. As the low moves east of Tasmania tonight rain will tend to showers and become isolated.
