Council won't bid for flood funds

Friday August 31, 2012 - 10:24 EST

The Deputy Mayor of Mackay Regional Council says it is unlikely it will apply for the first round of the Royalties to Regions funding.

The Queensland Government announced $40 million of funding over four years for flood mitigation works to reduce the risk for Queensland communities.

Councillor Kevin Casey says the outlay of council money compared to the incoming grant is not enough to warrant an application.

"At this stage we probably won't apply because it is only a relatively small basket of $40 million and if you try and divide that around the state, there's not going to be very many significant projects carried out for that monetary value," he said.
