Cool SA a contrast to the east

Sam Terry
While sizzling heat pervaded New South Wales on Monday, South Australia went against the grain, with gusty southerly winds and cloud bringing abnormally low temperatures to the coast and southeast. Naracoote only reached 21 degrees, six below average and the coldest day this month. Coonawarra was also chilly for summer, peaking at just 19. The unusual cool comes as a gusty front just slides across the southern states, generating lots of cloud and even some light rain. On Tuesday, winds are set to maintain their southerly-ness, driving in the cool air that usually sits away off in the Southern Ocean. Maximum temperatures are forecast to depart even further from average, possibly peaking at nine below the norm in some places in the southeast corner of the state. Adelaide is expected to hit only 21, although after the extreme heat of November, It's doubtful that there'll be many complaints.
