Hobart has experienced its coldest February in 12 years.
Figures released today by the Weatherzone show the average minimum temperature in Hobart was 11 degrees, while the average maximum was about 21.
Yesterday it reached just 14 degrees in the city, the coldest February day in 5 years.
Meteorologist, Matt Pearce, says Tasmania's east coast also felt the chill, with Scamander experiencing its coldest February temperatures in 25 years.
"Basically we've had a lot of cold air in the upper levels across most of the month, especially through the 2nd half of February," he said.
"It's what meteorologists call a long wave trough and that tends to result in below average temperatures at the surface as well."
