Canberra on ice
Canberra is set to see a few mornings drop below freezing as a high sets up over the southeast.
Canberra cooled to -2.6 degrees this morning, more than five degrees below average, as light winds and clear skies combined under a cool airmass. The next few mornings are looking to be equally cool, as a period of cold starts begin.
Sunday will be the coldest of the three day cold spell, dropping a few degrees below freezing. Freezing fog is likely to form on Sunday morning as well, with lingering moisture and an almost still morning.
Freezing fog is the same as fog but it is below freezing and leaves rime ice on anything below zero. This fog should hang around for a few hours after sunrise as winds remain light until mid morning.
Monday should be another cold start reaching zero, before overnight temperatures begin to warm up later in the week ahead of a trough.
