A cold front crossing Australia's south today will bring a spell of cool days and chilly nights, however thankfully for some it will only be short lived. The front has been traversing the nation's southeast this morning, bringing a burst of showers, blustery winds and pockets of small hail to Tasmania, Victoria and southeastern parts of South Australia. As the front moves northeast today, showers will spread into northeastern VIC and southern NSW with snow expected to develop about the Victorian Alps and Snowy Mountains later this afternoon. By tomorrow many residents will be wondering where spring has gone, as a deck of low cloud and drizzle caps temperatures in the low teens in TAS, and the mid-teens in VIC, SA and southern NSW. On Thursday, Hobart can expect a top of just 12 degrees, Melbourne 15 degrees and Adelaide 17 degrees. Jumpers will be most needed in the nights and mornings though with many places likely to experience their coldest since August. Widespread frost is on the cards again across inland parts of the nation's southeast, particularly on Thursday and Friday mornings, although they are unlikely to be as severe as early in August. By the weekend, most places are likely to see temperatures at least returning close to average, although nights and mornings will remain chilly. Those holding out for some spring warmth won't have to wait long, with a spell of warm days likely to push into southeastern Australia from Monday next week.
