A strong cold front will make its way across South Australia today, causing cloud and wind to increase ahead of it. Thick cloud and gusty northerly winds will combine to deliver the warmest May morning for Adelaide since 2014. That doesn't mean it's a good morning to enjoy the great outdoors though. Northerly winds are expected to exceed 60 km/h across much of the state and blow dust. Winds are a chance of gusting stronger than 90 km/h, most likely over Eyre and Yorke peninsulas and Kangaroo Island. Cape Willoughby on Kangaroo Island has already recorded a wind gust of 98 km/h. With gusts this strong it is best to stay indoors, move your vehicles under cover or away from any trees and secure any loose items around the house. These northerlies will keep our morning warmer but are a precursor to a cooler westerly change. The cool change will start with some rain before winds ease slightly and shift onshore, filtering in some cool air. Rain is expected to reach the Eyre Peninsula by the mid morning while central parts of the state should see rain arrive by the middle of the day. Falls are expected to be in the 5-10mm range, with coastal areas likely to see the heaviest falls. Tomorrow will be noticeably cooler with overnight temperatures dropping to about 10 degrees or below in the colder air. Showers are likely to clear up as a high establishes itself across the state, bringing a sunny afternoon topping out in the high teens.
