Almost six months on from the Australia Day floods, a milestone has been reached in the Wide Bay Burnett region's recovery.

The last BlazeAid base camp which had been helping landholders has packed up.

There were six camps of volunteers from Mundubbera to Murgon.

Over four months, 1,040 volunteers rebuilt more than 435 kilometres of fencing on 338 properties.

They also cleared fences and did countless odd jobs.

BlazeAid founder and president Kevin Butler said it was an outstanding success.

"It gets better every year. This army of volunteers come in, many of them in their 60s and 70s, grey nomads, some of them have got OBEs - in other words, Over Bloody Eighty - just come and they work and they don't ask questions. It's got nothing to do with state or federal government."

In just over four months, the Murgon BlazeAid camp cleared and fixed 270 kilometres of fences, tallied a combined 1,900 days of volunteer labour and cooked 2,400 meals.

Camp co-ordinator Alison Mortenson says there were some heartfelt thank-yous from a very grateful farming community.

"Today, the volunteers have been helping us clean all the tools and packing them away, hopefully not to be used for several years, as long as there's not another flood here."

More volunteers are needed now at base camps in the Lockyer Valley.
