Birdsville's coolest day since Boxing Day

Brett Dutschke, Wednesday January 16, 2013 - 17:59 EDT

A recent cooler change has given Birdsville its coolest day since Boxing Day, but it still reached 40.4 degrees today, slightly above average.

The last time it failed to hit 40 degrees was on Boxing Day when it reached 39.8 degrees, its coolest day of the past four weeks.

With today being the 21st consecutive day of 40 degrees or hotter it is only three days short of equalling the previous record of 24 days, set in 2006.

The pub will need to keep stocked up on refreshments for a while longer with the record in danger of being smashed.

The small outback town is a good chance to reach the low-to-mid 40s each day for the next week. The day with the most doubt is tomorrow, it looks only marginally hotter than today.

Birdsville recently scored its hottest fortnight in 56 years of records, averaging a maximum of 45.4 degrees from December 31st to January 13th.
