Biggest downpours in years hit Capricornia

Thunderstorms in the Capricornia this afternoon have been dumping massive amounts of rain in very short time, bringing the biggest downpours in years to some. Samuel Hill, just north of Gladstone received 19 millimetres of rain in just 10 minutes their biggest 10-minute downpour in almost five years. Just southwest of Gladstone, another slow-moving storm affected Thangool airport where more rain fell in 10 minutes than during any day since last summer. In all more than 46mm was recorded at the site, the biggest daily December total in four years. Severe thunderstorms are likely continue in the area early this evening but should weaken overnight. On Thursday storms will move a little further north and west of the region and should be less intense.
