Bad weather coming

Tuesday August 19, 2008 - 12:10 EST

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning southern Tasmanians to secure loose items outside their homes as wild weather approaches this afternoon.

A cold front will cross the state and wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour are expected south of a line from Bicheno to Low Rocky Point.

The Bureau's Severe Weather Meteorologist, Paul Fox-Hughes, says tree branches and power lines may come down.

"We'd expect in this sort of wind direction, a west to north-westerly that there'll be the odd tree branches come down but it's not really shaping up as a major event," he said.

"In this case the SES, State Emergency Service, ask people to just simply to secure things that are loose outside."
