Autumnal change calls for wardrobe shuffle

After an incredible season of rain and storms right across NSW and QLD, the region is set to move into a calmer, more autumnal pattern over the next week.

A trough has been sitting over southeast QLD for over a week, drawing in tropical moisture and delivering flooding rains, welcomed by some, but cursed by others. The rain has caused rivers across the Darling Downs and Central Highlands districts to overflow, in some cases by a few metres.

The trough is still causing showers and storms, but thankfully these will gradually subside over the next 48 hours. Any storms, though, could see flash flooding, exacerbating already severe flood conditions.

During Wednesday, a cooler southerly change will push up the New South Coast, spreading light showers and low cloud. This change should hit Brisbane late on Wednesday evening, perhaps even early on Thursday.

The interesting thing about this change is that it will confine showers to the coast and immediate inland, allowing the interior to catch a break from all that precious rainfall.

The southerly change will also herald one of those dreaded wardrobe shuffles. Brisbane is expected to reach an "icy" 26 on Thursday, and Sydney 23.
