Another soaking looking likely for the Kimberley

Another soaking looking likely for the Kimberley
Following in the footsteps of a tropical low that delivered record rains to parts of the Kimberley last month, another deep low looks to take shape later in the coming week. The lead-up to Christmas was a wet and windy one for many towns and cities throughout the Kimberley. Over the period of Wednesday, December 21st to Friday 23rd, the airports servicing Broome, Derby, Curtin and Fitzroy Crossing all recorded either record 24-hour December rain or rain so heavy it helped create a new monthly record. Feeding itself with tropical moisture and remaining powerful as it crossed the Kimberley, the deluge was relentless. Fast forward about two weeks and it's starting to look like a similar system is forming. Models are beginning to agree on the formation of a tropical low over the Top End into Monday. Just like its predecessor, this system is expected to gain strength until it tracks southwest over the Kimberley late Wednesday or early Thursday. Its direction, should it come to fruition, will likely once again deliver flooding rain and powerful winds to places saturated last month. As it draws in moisture from offshore, places such as Broome, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing could all be drenched with well over 100mm in 24 hours. Powerful winds and thunderstorms would also be likely to accompany the low pressure system. Keep in touch with the forecast synoptics charts at http://www.weatherzone.com.au/synoptic
