Another cold morning set for SA and VIC

Kim Westcott
Winter is starting to set in with another cold morning ahead for South Australia and Victoria. It was the coldest morning since last winter for Adelaide residents, with the mercury recording a low of 3.6 degrees around the time the alarm clock started to go off. The average June temperature is eight degrees, but this morning it fell more than four degrees below this. For Melbourne, a low of 4.8 degrees was recorded, which was also the coldest since August. Viewbank had its coldest morning in 11 months, with the minimum of minus 0.1 degrees recorded at 8am. This is the first sub-zero degree temperature recorded in June in six years. In Scoresby, the half a degree recorded this morning was the coldest since June. A cool airmass combined with a high pressure system and light winds provided the ideal conditions for a cold morning, with similar conditions expected again tomorrow. Adelaide may only see six degrees overnight, Melbourne only four. Widespread areas of fog and frost are expected to build under clear nighttime skies. Extensive fog and frost is forecast for parts of Victorian districts as well as southern and western parts of South Australia, particularly inland and elevated areas. It might be worth adding an extra blanket on the bed tonight if it isn't already there, as tomorrow equally looks like another teeth-chattering morning.
