Alpine areas brace for snow

Thursday June 21, 2012 - 09:48 EST

The Bureau of Meteorology says a cold front moving across north-east Victoria will dump between 30 and 50 centimetres of snow in alpine areas today.

The ski fields will be covered in the biggest dump of fresh snow so far this season.

A duty forecaster with the bureau, Michael Efron, says snow can be expected down to 800 metres on Friday.

He says some areas could get more than 50 centimetres of snow.

"We will see snowfalls developing during Thursday down to around 1,200 metres, we may even seen falls of around 30 to 50 centimetres in those alpine areas, potentially some higher falls as well," he said.
