A week of contrasts that continue to shape our country

A week of contrasts that continue to shape our country
It has been a very busy week in the weather front with very strong winds in Southern Australia, severe storms hitting Victoria and south east Queensland and enhanced fire weather conditions in New South Wales. The past seven days has reminded us that weather not only shapes the planet, but has a direct influence in human history. And this week, has not been particularly good for those in eastern New South Wales, Victoria or South Australia. The good news is that a high pressure system over southeastern Australia today and tomorrow will bring good weather before the next trough moves over South Australia on Sunday. The main weather phenomena to focus over the weekend will be those cool nights/early mornings in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and south eastern South Australia. These will feel quite chilly, especially when compared to the unseasonable warm weather we have been experiencing lately. Mildura in North West Victoria dropped to three degrees this morning, their coldest October morning since 1996. Minus two degrees at Bathurst in New South Wales was their coldest October morning in nine years and the three degrees this morning at Cleve in South Australia, was their coldest October morning since 2005. In Queensland, night-time temperatures have not been as extreme and will continue to linger around ten degrees in the south east and southern interior. Although night-time temperatures will remain chilly, temperatures (especially daytime temperatures) will gradually warm up under mostly sunny skies throughout the weekend and early next week. Regardless of these cooler temperatures, Australia will reach the end of the month registering one of the hottest Octobers on record, if not the hottest. In terms of rain, there is not much on the cards for the next few days with less than 5mm in south eastern South Australia on Sunday but a bit more for Victoria on Monday, where central parts of the state could see 10-15mm of rain. This, however, is barely anything for farmers in Australia's interior who are already facing tough times due to the lack of rain. Farmers and Firefighters have shared a common ground this week, the hope that this crazy weather of ours will turn for the better.
