A taste of Winter

Jessica Trevena
Masses of cloud are building over the Great Australian Bight as a a front kicks cold air north towards South Australia. Winds have gusted to 95 km/h ahead of the front at Cape Willoughby this afternoon, and a Severe Weather Warning has been issued for South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. Gusts of over 125 km/h are expected in Alpine regions Monday night and Tuesday before freezing air is forced over the southeast post-front, bringing a shivery week to the southern capitals. Hobart is expecting just 9 degrees for three days this week (the equal coldest of this year), whilst Melbourne could drop into the low teens Tuesday to Thursday. Both capitals will be lucky to see sunshine before the end of the week. Sydney and Canberra are also likely to see their coldest days since mid-June.
