A stormy change for Adelaide

Sam Terry
After a month of almost nothing but dry, hot winds, Adelaide is spoiled for choice as a front and low push in excitedly from the Bight, bringing storms, gusty winds and rain: everything but snow. The city and surrounds experienced a very warm morning as the mercury hovered just below 19 degrees, five above the November average. The temperature quickly soared to 32 degrees in gusty northerly winds. However this didn't last long as a southwesterly change dropped the temperature by seven degrees in just an hour! Rainfall has also been a welcome factor. While much of the pastoral and Murraylands districts received up to 100 millimetres this month, Adelaide and the rest of the southeast were woefully under average. This is changing as the front and low head east, dowsing the land with precious rain. Adelaide has picked up 5 millimetres so far, with the highest rainfall observed at Murray Bridge, at 14 millimetres. There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning current for much of southern SA, with potential for damaging wind gusts and large hail with any storms. As yet, nothing has been observed. Whatever happens, it is certainly a big change from the rest of this month.
