It was a chilly start for the southeast, with temperatures dipping well below average during the night and the early morning.
The past two weeks has seen a pattern of cold fronts and strong southwesterly winds dominating the weather across Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia. This has meant low cloud, light showers and alpine snowfalls.
The last few days, however, have seen a high broaden, clearing out skies over NSW, allowing a frosty morning to develop.
This morning Mudgee plummeted to -6 degrees, its coldest morning in two years. It was similar for Braidwood, which dipped to -7, and Cessnock, which cooled to -3.
Sydney itself had on overnight minimum of 5.6, which is 3 below the average. This was its coldest August morning in 3 years.
Tomorrow morning looks to be less chilly, at least near the coast, thanks to some patchy overnight cloud.
